The Somerset Historic Environment Record is the definitive source of information on the historic environment in the modern county of Somerset (excluding Exmoor National Park). The record contains nearly 45,000 records of archaeological sites and finds, historic buildings and landscapes. The database and mapping are available online and there is also an extensive library of unpublished fieldwork reports and photographs (including aerial photos) which can be consulted at the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton, which also holds Somerset archives and local studies library and the archaeological society's extensive library.
