Sandwell’s Historic Environment Record is the definitive source of information on the historic environment of the Local Authority Area. The database contains around 1400 records of archaeological sites, findspots and historic buildings. These range from finds of Mesolithic burnt mounds to artefacts from the twentieth century. Given Sandwell’s location within the Black Country, an area that industrialised both early and extensively, a particular feature is the number of records related to industrial heritage. The record is still under development and will be strengthened over time.
