Church of St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey Street, Bermondsey SE1 - Southwark
The church was rebuilt in the late C17 on the site of a former medieval church developed from the Chapel of the Convent of Bermondsey, first recorded in the late C13.The lower stages of the C15 tower are incorporated. The structure is weak, not helped by remodelling in 1830 and the 1880s. Stucco finished throughout on brick under slate roof with copper gutters within parapets. The roof structures have been heavily repaired historically but are still under stress. This is likely the cause of falls of plaster from ceilings. Leakage through the copper gutters is hard to trace.
