Church of St Mary, Chadwell, Scalford - Melton

Parish church of C12 origin with C13 additions. Repaired C17 and restored 1865-6 by R W Johnson. There has been a long history of structural movement. A number of structural ties are evident to the tower and there is extensive cracking to the chancel, of which widened during 2018. It is thought that a lack of below ground drainage, clay subsoil and the long dry summer of 2018 are contributing factors. The congregation are in receipt of professional structural engineering advice, alongside support from the Diocesan Historic Churches Support Officer.
