Church of St Mary, Charleton - South Hams
Parish church. C15 heavily restored in 1849-50. Slatestone rubble walls; windows largely of Caen stone, slate roofs. The fittings are all Victorian and the octagonal font, pulpit and desk are also of Caen stone. Tower masonry is very damp, although the parapet has been recently repointed. Rainwater goods rusting and undersized and failing to get the water away from the church resulting in cracking and staining to the interior. Internal decorations are poor. The church is generally well maintained but significant repairs need to be undertaken. The future of the building is uncertain.
