Church Of The Holy Family, Blackbird Leys - Oxford
Innovative church designed by Colin Shewring 1964-5, with a timber hyperbolic paraboloid roof designed by the engineer Hugh Tottenham. It comprises a spacious heart-shaped worship space with sacristy, small square campanile, narthex and toilets. The timber boarded roof was originally covered in aluminium sheet which was later replaced with a membrane: this now leaks leading to localised failure of the main roof structure. There are proposals to demolish the church and re-develop the site.
