Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury - Thurrock (UA)

Ruined C19 armoured casemate fort on site of earlier battery; refortified for both World Wars. Severe water ingress to casemates; barrack blocks in severe disrepair. Roofs to two searchlight housings are collapsing. The generator house has been repaired and converted to a café. Gatehouse barrack block repairs completed in 2011 and subsequent site surveys were completed in early 2017, with major repairs to make the site watertight continuing into 2020 part funded with Historic England grant assistance. Discussions continuing.
