Bennerley Viaduct, Awsworth Road (part located in Erewash Borough), Awsworth - Broxtowe / Erewash

An exceptional iron railway viaduct,1878-9 c.500m long. Disused and unmaintained for decades. An application to the National Heritage Lottery Fund in 2017 for repairs and a pathway across the viaduct was unsuccessful. Historic England subsequently awarded a two-stage grant in early 2019; development work and essential repairs followed in 2019 and 2020. Work was temporarily stopped due to Covid-19 but soon re-started. Historic England Heritage Stimulus funding enabled the reinstatement of parapets. A phased scheme to reinstate the western approach and to 'deck' the viaduct is underway.
