Bennerley Viaduct, Awsworth Road (part located in Erewash Borough), Awsworth - Broxtowe / Erewash

Railway viaduct,1878-9. An exceptional lattice ironwork structure c.500m long, disused for decades. The risk largely arises from unchecked deterioration and the need for continuing maintenance. Historic England has given technical and pre-application advice to inform consents for repairs and the construction of a footpath and cycle route across the viaduct. An application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2017 for this major project was not successful. Historic England awarded a two stage grant in January 2019; development work is underway and repairs are due to start later in 2019.
