The collection consists of eighteen stereoscopic cards containing thirty-six black and white photographic prints, taken c.1860s, of assorted locations and sculptures from around England and Wales. Three are stamped ‘P.H. Thomas, Chemist, 6 High Street, Purton’, two are annotated with ‘F. Bedford’ and one is marked ‘Frederick York and Son’. Two were produced by the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company.
Locations include Shanklin Chine (Isle of Wight), Duke of Wellington’s Statue (London), Dungeon Ghyl (Langdale Pikes), Fountains Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Canterbury Cathedral, Bonchurch Fountain (Isle of Wight), St George’s Church (Crowhurst), Scarborough, Eaton Hall (Chester), Llanberis (Wales), and various sculptures.
The collection was acquired by The Historic England Archive in 2013.
