Description

This material has not yet been fully catalogued. Copyright, date, and quantity information for this record may be incomplete or inaccurate.

The collection comprises one album with 24 annotated photographs showing construction and progress of widening of the A20 highway now parallel with the M20 motorway in Kent. The album deals with the Farmingham to Wrotham section of the road between 1922 and 1923.

The album contains a number of 'before and after' sequences which illustrate the impact of the road on the landscape. Workers are visible in several images but there is very little motor traffic depicted.

Few other equivalent records exist in the NMR which illustrate the transport transition from the rural to the dominance of the car.

Archival History

The photographer has not been identified, nor is it clear who commissioned the compilation of the album.

The album was acquired by the NMR in 2008.
