The collection documents the construction of the Tate and Lyle sugar silo at Huskisson Dock, Liverpool. Three separate local photographers (Elsam, Mann and Cooper, Stewart Bale Limited and Carbonara Limited), were involved in documenting each stage of the construction process, providing a visual record of the construction project and the people involved in it. In addition to the photographs, there are also two measured drawings produced by Tate and Lyle's Engineering Department.
The collection was passed to the National Monuments Record (NMR) by Brian Davies (Acting site manager), in March 1992, whilst the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME) were carrying out an official photoraphic survey of the site.
