Description

The collection comprises 75 stereoscopic cards taken by Walter Edward Zehetmayr between 1913 and 1922. The cards have been divided into two series', showing architectural and archaeological subject matter. The architectural series includes views of cathedrals, abbeys, castles, country houses and market crosses alongside images of Lyme Regis, Beer and Taunton. The archaeological series consists of views of Stonehenge and Old Sarum. Each stereoscopic card is comprehensively annotated on the back, with information including date and time, and weather conditions, and details of the photography and development processes.

W E Zehetmayr was born in 1886 in Twickenham to parents of German origin. The 1911 Census lists his occupation as Wholesale Metal Merchant. He died in January 1955.
