Chyrond and Round House East in Veryan, Cornwall, two rubble and cob cottages, both round in plan, with wheatreed thatched conical roofs. The cottages were built in the early nineteenth century by Hugh Rowe, a builder from Lostwithiel, Cornwall

Description

Village lore holds that the cottages were built on a round plan so that the Devil had no corners of the building to hide in. There were originally five of these round cottages in Veryan, all built by Rowe around the same date, to house the five daughters of local missionary, Reverend Jeremiah Trist
