Description

The red-breasted goose is a rare visitor to Great Britain. It breeds in Arctic Russia, and migrates to areas around the Black Sea for winter. At the end of the 20th century the population were estimated to be around 90,000 but this was followed by a strong decline; the red-breasted goose was classified as an endangered species in 2007. The wetland wildlife reserve at Slimbridge was opened in 1946.
