Description

Chinnor Lime Works was established in 1908 by W. E. Benton. In 1919 a small cement producing plant was established adjacent to the kilns of the Lime Works; further kilns were added in 1928, 1939 and 1958. The Chinnor Cement & Lime Co. was founded in 1936, and in 1958 the company became Chinnor Industries Ltd. In 1963 the company was acquired by Rugby Portland Cement. The works closed in 1989 and the site has since been redeveloped for housing.
