The Medway Steam Packet Company was fomed in 1837 in order to link Chatham with Sheerness. In 1881 a second Medway Steam Packet Company was formed as a successor to the 1837 company. The New Medway Steam Packet Company was established in 1919, acquiring the assets of the 1871 concern. The last New Medway S. P. Co. vessel was the 'Medway Queen'. She ceased providing excursions along the Thames in 1963.
