Description

37 Church Street is part of a terrace known as Abbey Lawn Cottages, built as a speculative development for the Abbey in the 15th or early 16th century. The terrace originally ran from nos. 34-51 Church Street, though only nos. 34-48 survive. The cottages are an important surviving example of a medieval terrace and were restored from 1967. The original plan included a smoke hood, which carried smoke from the hall fire up to a vent in the roof. The terrace is Grade I Listed.
