Abbey Lawn Cottages were built as a speculative development for the Abbey in the 15th or early 16th century. The terrace originally ran from no. 34 to no. 51 Church Street, though only 34-48 survive. No. 40 was internally remodelled in the late 16th or early 17th century, and a new frontage was added to the building in the 19th century. The terrace was restored from 1967. The cottages are an important surviving example of a medieval terrace and are Grade I Listed.
