The photograph shows item RK17 A00112 Cob 8. These coins were minted in Mexico and brought to Europe by the Spaniards. Because they were hand-hammered they are irregular in shape and inconsistent in thickness. If a cob was overweight the minter clipped off a piece. Pieces of the coins were also clipped off to pass the coin off at full value.
