The station, on the Great Central line, opened in 1911 to serve Rushcliffe Golf Club. The station closed to passengers in 1963 but the line remained open to freight traffic serving the the nearby British Gypsum works until 1983. This service was reinstated in 2000 and in 2003 the station re-opened to passenger traffic with a Great Central Railway (Nottingham) passenger service between Loughborough Junction and Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre.
