Illustration of the Hercules fountain in the centre of The Pond at Kew Gardens. The bronze sculpture depicts Hercules fighting a serpent and is the centrepiece of the fountain. Museum Number 1 is in the background, built by Decimus Burton in 1856-7.

Description

The painting is dated 1963 and is signed; however the signature is largely illegible. The sculpture is also known as 'Hercules and Achelous' and was sculpted by Francis Joseph Bosio. The sculpture was once situated outside the east front of Windsor Castle and then re-erected at Kew in 1963.
