Description

The five phases of the monument depicted are (anti-clockwise from left): Period I (c. 3100BC), Period II (c. 2100BC), Period IIIa (c. 2000BC), Period IIIb (c. 1550BC), and the final phase Period IIIc (after c.1550BC).

The illustrations were reproduced seperately in black and white on pages 9-11 of the 1980 publication 'What is Stonehenge?: A Guide for Young People' and also in the 1984 Stonehenge visitors' leaflet. The illustrations were reproduced in colour in the orinal arrangement (as shown) on pages 20-21 of the 1985 English Heritage guidebook for Stonehenge and Neighbouring Monuments.
