Description

The Kidwelly and Llanelly Canal was taken over by the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway and in 1869 tracks were laid following the course of the former canal bed. The rail line was aquired by the Great Western Railway in 1922 but as coal mines closed in the the 1960s it progessively went out of use, a final short section at Kidwelly closing in 1998. A cycle track now follows the line of the dismantled railway.
