3/91 House adjoining north end of 29.9.61 Hawker's Cottage including front garden walls and gateway GV II

House. C17 origins. Colourwashed and plastered, probably cob on stone plinth, wheat straw thatched roof gabled at right end, right gable end stone chimney partly rebuilt in brick. Single depth plan. At one time cottage may have been workshop with living accommodation above, cloam oven to first floor fireplace. Present plan 2 rooms wide with stair in ground floor room left. C19 lean-to projection at front right, further C19 lean-to adjoins right gable end. 2 storeys. 3-window front with gabled timber porch with raking sides and arched head. Ground floor window left 2-light C19 casement, 6 panes per light; ground floor window to left of porch similar. Ground floor window right 2-light C20 transomed window, 12 panes per light. First floor casements C19: left, 2-light, 8 panes per light; middle, 3- light, 4 panes per light; right, 2-light, 3 panes per light. Ground floor room right has slate floor, 3 cross beams and renewed fireplace with plain granite lintel. Ground floor room left has 2 cross beams and axial ceiling beams. Stair has late C17 splat balusters. First floor room right has large fireplace with roughly chamfered fireplace beam and cloam oven. Collar rafter roof with collars pegged into principals, principals halved and pegged at apex. Closed truss above wall to right of stairs.

Rubble stone garden wall with raised section with ovolo moulded caps each side of C19 gabled gateway. Ovolo moulded caps may be from Stowe House, dismantled 1739.
