SJ3197NE MARINE TERRACE 778-1/8/100 (East side) 16/08/72 No.15

GV II

House, with attached verandah; a detached element of the row known as Marine Terrace, facing the east returned end of that row but structurally attached to the north end of a row in Bath Street. Probably c1840; altered. Painted stucco with sandstone dressings, slate roof. Roughly square plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic, a gabled 4-window facade to the street; with channelled rustication to ground floor, a 1st-floor sill-band and flat apex to the gable. The ground floor has a wide square-headed doorway offset right of centre, with a set-in doorcase, door with round-headed panels, side-windows and shallow overlight; a canted bay window to the left with altered glazing, and a prominent cornice with blocking course; and a 4-pane sashed window to the right with a moulded and keyed architrave. The 1st floor has 4 similar 4-pane sashes with similar architraves, and above these is an oeil-de-boeuf window with keyed surround. The 2-window right-hand return (the garden front) has (inter alia) a 2-storey canted bay window to the right, with altered glazing; and the ground floor is protected by an elaborate cast-iron verandah of 2 wide bays with standards of slim paired columns linked by tracery, and large open-work brackets carried over as shallow arches. INTERIOR: not inspected. All the listed buildings in Marine Terrace, together with those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn and Marine Crescent, form a group in the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
