Formerly known as: No.30 Waterloo Hotel BATH STREET. Hotel. Built in 1815 as Waterloo Hotel; altered. Pebbledashed render with sandstone dressings, slate roof. Large double-pile plan with rear wing, built with architectural front to marine promenade and entrance in rear wing. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3:3:3 windows, symmetrical, the centre slightly set back; with part-glazed verandah protecting the ground floor, painted quoins 1st-floor sill-band, plain frieze, moulded cornice and low parapet, the centre lettered "ROYAL HOTEL" and surmounted by Royal Crest with lion and unicorn supporters. The ground floor has tall openings, mostly with altered glazing; the upper floors have sashed windows without glazing bars, those at 2nd floor square and all with moulded architraves. The right-hand return, 1:3:1 windows, with projecting gabled centre, had mostly tall 12-pane sashes at ground floor, 9-pane sashes at 1st floor and square 6-pane sashes at 2nd floor, some blind windows and a pedimented gable with lettering "THE ROYAL" (plus an iron fire-escape to the front portion). The gable wall of the rear wing has a tall corniced doorway in the centre (with early C20 suspended iron and glass canopy), one window to the right and 3 on each floor above. INTERIOR: not inspected. Forms group with Nos 26 and 28 (qv). All the listed buildings in Bath Street, together with those in Adelaide Terrace, Beach Lawn, Marine Crescent and Marine Terrace, form a group in the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
