Row of 4 houses forming part of terrace row; with attached verandah. Probably c1847-50 (not shown on OS map surveyed in 1847); altered. Painted stucco, slate roof and stuccoed chimneys; cast-iron verandah. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, built as 2 pairs with doorways to left and right in each pair; with back extensions. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, each pair having 5 first-floor windows of which the centre in each case is blind; with painted quoins to left of No.9 and a painted pilaster to right of No.12, a continuous sill-band and oversailing bracketed eaves with moulded gutter cornice. At ground floor each has a wide doorway with side-windows, panelled door and 3-pane overlight (except No.11 which has 4 panes); and a large canted bay window with 4-pane sashed glazing, except at No.12 which has 6 tall panes in each leaf. At 1st floor Nos 9 to 11 have windows with shouldered architraves except that to left at No.11 which is a canted oriel, and No.12 has 2 similar oriels with dentilled cornices, all these windows sashed and most 4-paned but those at No.9 without glazing bars. Nos 9 and 10 have various skylights, Nos 11 and 12 each have a pair of small round-headed dormers. Corniced chimneys with cornices on front slope. The attached verandah, though variously painted, is uniform, 4 bays to each house, with attractive open-work standards, scrolled brackets and elaborate frieze; surmounted at No.12 by delicate hooped railings with dogbars. INTERIORS: not inspected. Forms group with Nos 6, 7 and 8 adjoining to left (qv), and with No.13 adjoining to right (qv). All the listed buildings in Marine Terrace, together with those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn and Marine Crescent, form a group in the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
