Row of 4 houses forming part of terrace row; with attached verandahs. Probably c1840; altered. Painted stucco, slate roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted except No.4 which is double-fronted; Nos 2 and 3 built as halls-adjoining pair; with back extensions. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2 windows each except No.4 which has 3 and is symmetrical; with a giant pilaster to the left corner of No.2, and a 1st floor band slightly above sill level. The openings differ slightly from house to house. All have square-headed doorways, that at No.3 with a half-glazed door and the others with panelled doors and plain overlights, and No.4 with a set-in pilastered architrave. No.4 has canted bay windows at ground floor, otherwise all the windows are sashed without glazing bars (except those at 1st floor of No.5 which have altered glazing): those at Nos 2 and 3 have plain surrounds (those at 1st floor of No.3 triangular-headed) and those at Nos 4 and 5 have plain reveals but the 1st floor windows of No.4 are featured with open-segmental pediments on consoles. No.3 has 2 skylights and No.5 has 2 small flat-roofed attic dormers. Short corniced chimneys. The attached verandahs also differ: No.4 is of cast-iron in 3 wide bays with standards formed of paired slender columns with tracery, ornamental brackets and delicate cresting; No.2 with cast-iron open-work standards, No.3 with pairs of simple columns, and No.5 with latticed standards. INTERIORS: not inspected. Forms group with Nos 6, 7 and 8 adjoining to the right (qv). All the listed buildings in Marine Terrace, together with those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn and Marine Crescent, form a group in the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
