1885, a lively Martin and Chamberlain Birmingham School Board design, in their imaginative polychrome Gothic style. Red brick with terracotta dressings and timber framing with gables. Range of cross gables over school rooms flanking taller axial hall with tiled roof surmounted by ingeniously louvred and spired vent cum bell tower of square section. Terracotta dressed shafted windows in triple groups beneath the cross gables which have curved bressumers and vertical studding infilled with polychrome diagonally patterned plestework; carved bargeboards, finials. Masters house projects to south east corner of road front with similar half timber details to gables. West wing with similar details. Particularly effective plastering and quality of decoration.
