TM1473 LAMBSETH STREET 585-1/7/106 (West side) 20/10/71 No.7 Dove House
Two houses. c1540 and early C17, unified into one property C20 and converted to cafe late C20. Rendered and colourwashed timber frame on brick plinth. Machine tile roofs. EXTERIOR: facade in two parts, the early C17 element to north advanced and with roof of higher pitch: 2 storeys in two-window range. Two 2/2 horned sashes to first floor and a tripartite sash to ground floor, with 2/2 and 6/6 unhorned sashes. Gabled roof with stack on rear roof slope. C16 south part also 2 storeys. C19 studded door from old town hall is set to right. Tripartite casement to left, with glazing bars.
First floor formerly jettied, but retains exposed studwork including a blocked 3-light mullioned window. Gabled roof. Full-height rear outshut. 2-storey rear wing, with gabled roof and stack, extended to west in C19. INTERIOR: original extent of rear wing marked by wave-moulded early C16 joists in ground floor and by former external wall studding to first floor, where the tie is supported on arched braces. Frame with jowled principal posts. South wall with blocked 4-light diamond-mullioned window. Shutter grooves in supporting rails. Late C20 staircase and roof structure. Front range altered. Chamfered bridging beams to ground floor. Blocked 4-light mullioned window in north wall. Roof of south part with late crown post roof of c1540: two bays, square-section post with arched braces to crown purlin only. No provision for collars.
