FRAMSDEN CHURCH ROW TM25NW (south east side) 5/10023 Estate Cottages, nos 138 and 139

GV II

Pair of cottages, c1840, perhaps to the designs of Anthony Salvin, who was active at Helmingham Hall (qv) in c1841. Brick in Flemish bond with moulded brick stack to party wall. Pantile roofs with vergeboards and swept eaves. Two storeys with outshut to rear. Left unit with slightly projecting gable to party wall and entrance under four-centred arch to outer range; half dormer to right unit, with similar entrance off axis of dormer flanked by windows. Picturesque style combining vernacular forms with those of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Both doors of an original design. Cottages 135-143 and the Church form a group.
