EDWARDSTONE 1.
5377 Church of St Mary The Virgin TL 94 SW 40/297 23.1.58 I 2.
A C14 and C15 flint and stone church with a tiled roof. The west tower is C15, with a chequer work plinth and a castellated parapet. The vestry was added by a clothier in the early C16. The church was considerably restored in 1880 by G P Bodley who rebuilt the chancel roof. The nave has a C14 king post roof. The interior has a fine C17 octagonal pulpit with carved panels and a tester. The font has a C17 cover. There are good C17 wall monuments, particularly of the Brand family, Lords of the Manor in the C17. The church stands in the grounds of the former Edwardstone Hall (now demolished). Graded for its historical value and internal features.
