BERRINGTON C.P. BERRINGTON SJ 5206-5306 11/42 - Group of 6 chest tombs approximately 12 metres to south of south aisle of Church of All Saints GV II
Group of 6 chest tombs. Late C18 and early C19. Grey sandstone ashlar.
North-western memorial: raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips flanking side panels, and moulded cornice to chamfered top with pedimented ends; to Elizabeth Elsmere, died 24th January 1816, aged 17 and John Elsmere, died 22nd June 1868, aged 72; Western memorial: raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips flanking side panels, and moulded cornice to flat top; to John Lawrence of Berrington, died 23rd November 1806, aged 80; south-western memorial: recessed semi-circular side panels have incised spandrels with anthemion ornament and flanking pilaster strips with anthemion ornament, end panels with incised borders, and moulded cornice to chamfered top; to Margaret Ramell, died 13th September 1842, aged 77; north-eastern memorial: raised and fielded side panels with flanking fluted pilaster strips, blank end panels with flanking fluted pilaster strips, and moulded cornice to chamfered top; eastern memorial; plain side panels with plain end piers, and chamfered top with raised ends; to Elizabeth Lawrence, died 1860; earlier inscription illegible at time of survey (March 1985); south- eastern memorial: plinth, raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips flanking side panels, and moulded cornice to chamfered top; to Ann,wife of John Lawrence.
