KIRBY UNDERDALE PAINSTHORPE SE 85 NW 3/38 Painsthorpe Hall 28.1.52 - II
House. c1815 for Admiral Sir Charles Richardson. Red-grey brick, slate roof. Irregular plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays; the left bay breaks forward slightly under separate hip. Central 6-panel door with overlight with glazing bars flanked to right by 12-pane sash with sill and to left by C20 garden door with margin-pane glazing: all under flat gauged brick arches.
First floor: three 9-pane unequal sashes with sills under flat gauged brick arches. Paired eaves brackets, hipped roof, axial stacks. The house has a good original interior including a cut string stair with turned balusters and slender wreathed handrail.
