TL 04NW KEMPSTON URBAN

2/108 Kempston Grange - - II

House. Circa 1845, probably for Henry Littledale (Bedfordshire Record Office: CRT 130/Kem/13). Yellow brick, with hipped slate roofs. Complex plan, roughly L-shaped. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical composition to all elevations.

Windows to principal elevations are mostly sashes with glazing bars in reveals, in colourwashed rendered moulded surrounds. Ground floor ones are larger and have moulded cornices. Cecorative cut brackets to eaves of principal elevations. Main entrance is to E elevation, and has large projecting porch of colourwashed stucco with paired pilasters surmounted by plain architrave, frieze with pairs of volutes, and cornice. S elevation has large ground floor canted bay to RH, surrounded by verandah on cast iron trellis-work supports. Variety of brick chimney stacks. Interior : ground floor SE room retains carved marble fireplace with overmantel mirror, and plasterwork decoration to cove and ceiling.
