SO9422SE ST JAMES'S SQUARE 630-1/13/832 (South side) 05/05/72 St George's Terrace Nos.6, 7 and 8 and attached railings (Formerly Listed as: ST JAMES'S SQUARE (South side) Nos.5-8 (Consecutive) St George's Terrace)

GV II

3 terraced houses, now offices and house, and attached railings. c1834-50. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and brick end and party-wall stacks with iron area railings, and porch to right. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basements, 6 first-floor windows, with service ranges to rear. Stucco detailing includes rustication around entrances and voussoirs to heads to ground floor; first-floor band surmounted by Doric pilasters to either side of window above entrances; crowning entablature and blocking course with copings. First floor has 6/6 sashes; ground floor has 6/6 sash with margin-lights and 8/8 sashes where original.

Basement has 4/8 and 6/6 sashes. Entrances: flights of 6 renewed steps to 6-panel doors at left with fanlights with radial to 2 to left and 4-panel door with overlight and margin-lights to right. INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery with fluted architraves and fleurons, otherwise not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: arrowhead railings with anthemions to stanchions; tent porch to No.8 has double scroll motif to uprights and openwork frieze. Forms a group with No.5 (qv). Verey describes these as, 'modest, well-proportioned houses'.
