Description

Solway Chemicals Ltd were a subsidiary of Marchon Products Ltd. In 1943, Marchon established a large chemical works at a site in Kells, Whitehaven. In 1955, Solway Chemicals Ltd opened a new anhydrite development next to the Marchon site. Sometimes known as Solway Works, this plant produced sulphuric acid and included an anhydrite mine, cement kilns and an acid plant.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
