Description

The Willow Holme Power Station was commissioned in 1927 and was completed with additional structures by Laing in 1946. The sub station building had been completed by 1932. The power station was closed in 1985 and many of the buildings were subsequently demolished, though the sub station remained. The caption below this photograph reads: "32 K.V. SUB-STATION, WILLOW HOLME, CARLISLE. No. 48326. For The Central Electricity Board, Didsbury, Manchester."

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
