Carlisle Crematorium was built by John Laing and Son for the City of Carlisle District Council and was dedicated by the Bishop of Carlisle on 26th September 1956. It was designed by R A Stewart, L J A Stow and B W Fairlamb. The crematorium was built in brick, with mountain grey facings, reconstructed stone dressings and Cumberland green slate roofs. Adjacent to the crematorium is a formal garden of rest, divided into twelve sections, one for each month of the year.
