The work on the Birmingham to Preston Motorway (M6), between junctions J13 to J16 started in June 1960 and was carried out by John Laing Construction Ltd. Section B was 6 1/2 miles in length between Whitgreave and Beech. The photograph was taken at chainage 3,000 of the southbound carriageway and shows a KL44 crane in the foreground striking steel forms from the haunch.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
