Description

In 1947, after a seven year break, Laing had resurrected their 'Area Outings' for staff and their families, with trips taking place in May and June. Twelve outings were arranged to take place in the early summer of 1956. This outing was for Laing employees from the Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry, Gaydon, Nottingham, Leicester, Lutterworth, Alderley Park, Bold, Bromborough, Stanlow, Rugeley, and Sale. It was the first time the firm had arranged an outing to Buxton, which took place during the town's annual well dressing ceremony. A similar photograph was published in the August 1956 edition of 'Team Spirit', the Laing employee newsletter.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
