The work on the Midland Link section of the M6 Motorway between Dunston to Shareshill (Junction 13 - Junction 11) was carried out by the Civil Engineering Division of the John Laing Construction Ltd. The motorway opened to traffic on March 14th 1966. The vehicles shown are an auto-mix paving machine laying dry lean concrete on the motorway and a side discharge tipping lorry deposing concrete into its hopper.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
