Elvet Riverside was a new arts faculty building for Durham University, built in the mid-1960s. It was designed by Architects Co-Partnership, consulting engineers were Ove Arup & Partners and it was constructed by John Laing Construction Ltd. The complex consisted of two buildings Elvet and Riverside connected by a bridge link with an inner courtyard. The Riverside block was built on stilts and housed offices and professors' rooms and the Elvet block adjacent to New Elvet housed a library, lecture theatres and communal areas. The original buildings has subsequently been renamed Elvet Riverside 1 since the addition of Elvet Riverside 2.
