In 1963, John Laing and Son Ltd bought the rights to the Danish industrialised building system known as Jespersen (sometimes referred to as Jesperson). The company built factories in Scotland, Hampshire and Lancashire producing Jespersen prefabricated parts and precast concrete panels, allowing the building of housing to be rationalised, saving time and money. The housing development at Skagen Court consisted of 239 homes in four and five-storey blocks, built by Laing for Bolton Council. The building work took a year to complete with tenants moving in to the complex in September 1967. But by the early 2000s, the flats were in a decaying state and the buildings were demolished in 2004.
