Stowmarket pipeline was laid in 1970 by Laing Pipelines for the Gas Council and was part of the Number 5 feeder main. Work started on 7th July 1970 and was completed by Mid November of that year with 600 men, two trench excavators and 26 side booms laying 106 km of pipeline from Braintree in Essex to Yelverton near Norwich. The pipeline crossed 123 roads and 5 rivers.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
