Work started on 7th July 1970 with a works deport established at Rattlesden Airport in Suffolk. The contract was completed by Mid November of that year with 600 men, two trench excavators and 26 side booms laying 106 km of pipeline from Braintree in Essex to Yelverton near Norwich, with the pipeline crossing 123 roads and 5 rivers.
