Description

This photograph is part of batch taken to show work carried out by Laing at the York Sugar Factory. A pulp warehouse, pulp drier and press building were designed by John Laing Design Associates for the British Sugar Corporation. Construction work started in 1973 and was due to be completed by April - July 1974. The sugar factory was originally built in 1926 and was known as the Poppleton Sugar Beet Factory, later renamed the York Sugar Factory in 1962. The factory was later closed in 2006 and subsequently demolished in 2008 - 2009.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
