Description

Work on Phase II of a rebuilding project at St Thomas' Hospital was undertaken by Laing and began in early 1969. Phase I had been completed in 1966 by Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons. The second phase included a new ward block, operating suites, outpatients' department, research institute, nurses' home and nurses' training school. Phase III of the project was planned to begin in 1975. The ward block was the third of the new blocks to be 'topped out', in May 1972.
