A unique form of dome construction was used for the domed roof at the London Central Mosque. The roof was built prior to the construction of the prayer room walls, therefore extensive support work was needed to hold the roof up. The prayer hall was first covered with a rectangular concrete slab supported by four columns. The slab had a circular hole in the centre around which a drum was erected using precast Lytag panels. The dome itself was then shaped using eight tubular steel ribs, cladding, and finished with a gold-coloured copper sheeting.
