The topping out ceremony was for Phase II of the Basildon Eastgate Shopping Centre which took place on the roof of the 10-storey block. The shopping centre was built by Laing's South Eastern Region for the Basildon Development Corporation, with work starting in April 1982.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
